Media representations are the ways in which media portrays particular groups, communities, experiences, ideas, or topics from a particular ideological or value perspective.

Narrative is the media term for stroy telling. Narrative is the way the different elements in a story are organised to make a meaningful story. Some of these elements can be facts as in a documentry, or characters and action as in drama.

Media language is the way in which the meaning of a media text is conveyed to the audience. One of the ways Media language works is to convey meaning through signs and symbols suggested by the way a scene is set up and filmed.

- An audience is a group of people who participate in a show or encounter a work of art, literature (in which they are called "readers"), theatre, music (in which they are called "listeners"), video games (in which they are called "players"), or academics in any medium.

- A genre is a specific type of music, film, or writing. Your favorite literary genre might be science fiction, and your favorite film genre might be horror flicks about cheerleaders. Go figure. In music, genre refers to musical style such as jazz, salsa or rock.
